I’ve been pretty quiet on my blog lately. But that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped cheering for my Rockies or watching baseball. This summer has kept me busy so far and I don’t see my schedule slowing down any time soon.
Anyway, a few weeks ago, I caught a few games when the Tampa Bay Rays came to town. One night, was a guy’s night out, with Dad and our buddy Ned. Here’s some shots of David Price warming up in the bullpen. He’s on Dad’s fantasy baseball team, so I figured I’d snap a few pics for him.
On the other side of the wall, I also got to see Aaron Cook warm up.
We sat in the outfield eating hot dogs and argued over who to cheer for. My Rockies beat up on David Price and got the win.
On the next afternoon, we headed back to the stadium for another game. This time, we made sure to take Mom with us. Dad actually won a pair of tickets from work and we got to sit in the fancy club level at the stadium. It was our first time seeing a game from this part of the park.
The Rockies had Ubaldo Jimenez on the mound.
Mom was rooting for the Rockies, but she has Evan Longoria on her fantasy baseball team, so she was secretly cheering for him. Fantasy baseball can really get you mixed up on who to root for.
Don’t worry, I straightened her out and convinced her to cheer for the good guys.
And of course, they won! My guys have been doing great lately. I just hope we can keep it up and catch those pesky Dodgers.
My cousin Robert is in town for the next few days. He flew all the way out from North Carolina. I love having him stay with us. He’s funny and I like playing with him. He was lucky enough to recently visit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. He even brought me back a nice, new hat.
Today, we headed up to Rocky Mountain National Park.
We’re taking him with us to the ballpark later this week. We’ll see the Rockies take on the Braves. I can’t wait. Talk to you soon!
We just watched an incredible game between the Netherlands and the Dominican Republic. The winner of this game got to move on to the 2nd round of the World Baseball Classic. The Dominicans came with an all star lineup and were the heavy favorites. The Netherlands were the big underdogs. I was cheering for the Netherlands. I’ll admit, I had mixed feelings on this one.
Ubaldo Jimenez was the starting pitcher tonight for the DR. He plays for the Rockies and is one of our top pitchers in the rotation. Ubaldo looked sharp and set a WBC record for strikeouts in a game. He pitched 4 innings and struckout 10.
Despite Ubaldo, Willy Taveras and a slew of other great players on the Dominican team, I really wanted to see the Neterlands pull an upset. The score was 0-0 going into the 11th inning. Jose Reyes scored in the top of the 11th to give the Dominicans a 1-0 lead. But the Netherlands, fought back and in the bottom of the 11th, they not only tied the game at 1-1, but with two outs, got another run and won the game!
What an exciting game! Congrats guys. I’ll be watching again in Round Two. Sorry to the Dominican players, but I bet your teams will be glad to have you back in Spring Training.
In case you missed it, I was on the MLBlog homepage again last week. They had my smiling face up there with some other great guys including Joe Torre, Mark DeRosa and local favorite Don (the Rock Pile Ranter). Here’s a screenshot.
We headed back to the ballpark on Tuesday to catch another round against the Padres.
We managed to get to the game early again to take in batting practice. Dad met some of the regular ballhawks and finally met up with Don, who writes the Rock Pile Rant, which we both enjoy reading. Check it out if you haven’t already. Dad got Jeff Francis to throw us a ball.
It was a little dirty, but I think it just adds to the flavor. I love chewing on my baseballs.
I snapped this picture when I heard the guys talking about me.
I think they were hoping to get mentioned in my blog. Jeff Baker was asking if his hair looked OK. He could probably see me taking pictures to post online. It’s OK Jeff, I don’t even have hair yet.
Anyway, on to the game. It was Ubaldo Jiminez’s turn on the mound and I knew he would be able to take care of things.
I know he’s a Padre, but I like all-star Adrian Gonzalez. I got Dad to snap a picture because I think he’s a good player, not to mention I caught a ball from him earlier this season.
It was my lucky night and I got to see another grand slam. This time it was from Chris Iannetta. Way to go Chris! I learned how to clap this week so I was able to yell AND clap for Chris.
Lots of K’s on the board tonight. Way to go guys!
It was good to see them pull out a 10-3 win after the spanking we took last night.
Before I wrap this up, I want to congratulate Zack, who managed to snag home run balls at back to back games this week. He caught them at Yankee Stadium. It’s the final week for Yankee Stadium and he was spotlighted on SportsCenter and Baseball Tonight. Both come on past my bed time, but his website had some great videos of his catches.
Also, I got my very first piece of mail this week. Actually, I got two things in the mail. I’ll tell you about them in an upcoming post, but I’ll just say one came from one of my favorite Rockies and the other came from last years World Series Champions. Stay tuned and thanks for reading!
